Curtis Clarke, 88 of Silver Bay, died Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at Carefree Living.
Curtis was born April 14, 1936, to Melvin and Ruth (Curtis) Clarke in Duluth, where he grew up and attended school. Curtis is the oldest of eleven siblings.
Curtis joined the Navy in 1954 while he was still in high school and served until 1959. Curtis married Janice Osse from Proctor in 1958, and they lived in Newport, Rhode Island until he was discharged in 1959. Curt started working at Reserve Mining shortly after being discharged from the Navy. Curt and Jan lived in Duluth until 1963 when they moved to Silver Bay.
After Reserve Mining closed, Curt worked on the construction of the Superior Hiking Trail and later worked as a maintenance person for the MN Department of Natural Resources at the local State Parks.
Curt enjoyed anything involving the outdoors. He shot competitive archery, and the family enjoyed camping and snowmobiling. Curt also enjoyed solitary hikes on the local hiking trails, fishing on Bean and Bear Lake, woodworking and watching the Minnesota Twins.
Curtis was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Janice in 2021; a grandson, Jim Waller.
Curt and Jan are survived by their three sons, Roger (wife Gloria), Craig (wife Leinel) and Brian (fiancée Carol King), 4 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
A burial with Military Honors will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at Sawtooth Mountain Cemetery.
