Clarence Kemp, 87, of Duluth, formerly of Hovland and Edina, died peacefully at home with his family on Tuesday, April 16, 2024.
Clarence was born December 12, 1936, to Clarence O. and Julia (Ahlstrand) Kemp in Eveleth, where he grew up and attended school. Following high school, he attended Dunwoody Institute to learn the carpentry trade. After serving in the U. S. Army, Clarence met Nancy and they were married for over 60 years. In their early years together they spent time boating and fishing. He loved animals, knew when the fox would cross the road, saw eagles catch fish, and trained his cats to do tricks.
He worked in the Twin Cities as a building contractor constructing single-family homes and multi-family buildings for many years. After he moved to the North Shore in the 90’s, he enjoyed building retirement dream homes for clients who became treasured friends. He developed multi acre properties at Stonegate and Chimney Rock in Hovland, and homes in Schroeder and Lutsen. A master craftsman with a reputation for quality and attention to detail, he has left his mark along the North Shore.
Clarence was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Kemp.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; children, Tara (Timothy) Clark, and Angie (Mark) Jungwirth; grandchildren, Natalie (Sam) Weyrauch, Melissa (Alex) Hintz, Brennan Clark, Benjamin Jungwirth, Clara Jungwirth, and Charlie Jungwirth; great-grandchildren Chloe Weyrauch, Ella Hintz, and Leo Hintz; two sisters, Jean Moren and Susan Kemp; and nieces and nephews.
Graveside service is at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis on Saturday, and open house gathering of family and friends in Duluth on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 from 12 Noon until 3 PM at 5384 N Shore Dr, Duluth, MN. For more information, to share a memory, or leave an online condolence visit
