Chris A. Johnson 54, of Lax Lake, died with his family by his side, Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at Solvay Hospice House in Duluth, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
He was born March 4, 1957 to Ronald D. and Nancy (Walstad) Johnson in Duluth. Chris grew up in Silver Bay, and graduated from William Kelley High School in 1975. He worked as a welder for North Shore Mining for nearly 22 years. He was a member of the Silver Bay Gun Club and enjoyed pheasant hunting, fishing, and summers at Isle Royale. Chris was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it, and loved spending time with his friends and family.
He is preceded in death by his father, Ronald D. Johnson in 2003.
Chris is survived by his wife, Debra of Lax Lake; daughter, Nikki of Two Harbors; son, Ryan (Ashley) of Fargo, North Dakota; step-children, Danielle (Pete) Anderson, of Casper, Wyoming, Jade Stankey of Silver Bay, and Tylor Stankey of Finland, and Chris Larson of Beaver Bay; mother, Nancy (Dale) Johnson of Two Harbors; brother, Steven (Deb) of Gillette, Wyoming; sisters, Susan (Scott) Wald of Cable, WI, and Karin Sandmann of Hayward, WI; 8 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 12 Noon until the 1 PM Memorial Service Tuesday May 31, 2011 at Zion Lutheran Church in Finland.
