Carl Moe, 97, of Two Harbors died Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at the Minnesota Veteran’s Home in Silver Bay.
He was born on July 27, 1918 to Harold and Signe (Anderson) Moe in Two Harbors where he was a lifelong resident. Carl worked for a time on the railroad before serving in the US Army in Europe during WW II. After the war, he returned to Two Harbors and his job on the railroad, working there until his retirement. During this time he also owned and operated Two Harbors Realty with his wife, Doris.
Carl’s hobbies and interests could be summed up in three words: hunting, fishing, and music. He greatly enjoyed playing guitar, harmonica, accordion, and piano with the Old-Timer’s Band.
He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Sons of Norway, and was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Doris; sisters, Helen Hill, Margaret Alden and Caroline Anderson; and step-son, Dale Boyle.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; sons and daughters, Dwight (Rogene) Moe, Dwain (Cheryl) Moe, Carlene (Don) Omtvedt, Betsy Himango, Dale (Brenda) Moe, and Deb Moe; step-sons, Leo “Doc” (Nancy) Boyle and Greg Boyle; 23 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Minnesota Veteran’s Home Birch Unit for the excellent care they gave Carl.
Visitation will be from 10 AM until the 11 AM funeral service on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Two Harbors. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery.
