Burt Magnuson

Burt Magnuson, 91, Two Harbors, died Saturday June 28, 2014 at the Minnesota Veteran’s Home in Silver Bay.

Burt was born March 8, 1923 to Joel and Edla (Blomberg) Magnuson in Two Harbors where he was a lifelong resident. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army. He was employed at the Co-op Grocery for several years, and later as a carman for the D M & I R Railroad for 29 years, retiring in 1985. He had also worked at the IGA Grocery and Abex Fiberglass.

Burt was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed carving at the Senior Citizen Workshop, gardening and caring for his lawn, and especially time spent with his family.

Burt is survived by a his loving wife of 63 years, Frances; daughters, Mary (Robert) Mauss of Austin,TX, and Ann (Ritch) Raycraft of Two Harbors; son, David Magnuson of Cloquet; grandchildren, Kristy (Kevin) Schreiber of Georgetown, TX, Kelley (John) Crutchfield of Leander, TX, Katie (Brian) Hill and Jennie Magnuson of Duluth, and Anthony Raycraft of Minneapolis; 6 great-grandchildren; brother Robert (Meredith) Magnuson and sister, June Magnuson of Two Harbors; many nieces and nephews; and a dear friend Arne Swanson.

Burt’s family would like to thank Ecumen Scenic Shores, Essentia Hospice and the wonderful staff at the Minnesota Veteran’s Home for the care they provided.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Alzheimers Foundation or the Minnesota Veteran’s Home in Silver Bay.

Visitation will be from 10 AM until the 11 AM service Thursday July 3, 2014 at Cavallin Funeral Home in Two Harbors. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery.
