Bonnie Johnson

Bonnie Gene (Sawyer) Johnson died Friday, November 30, 2012 at the Barross Cottage in Two Harbors, MN.

She was born at home in Two Harbors, October 29, 1919 to Leslie and Marion (McIllroy) Sawyer. She graduated from Two Harbors High School in 1937.

Bonnie married Vernon G. Johnson on July 31, 1940. She worked as a practical nurse and home care nurse for Burns & Christianson Hospital in Two Harbors. Later she worked as an Accredited Records Technician at Lake View Memorial Hospital, serving as head of the records department until retiring in 1970.

Bonnie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Two Harbors. She also belonged to the VFW Auxiliary, Post 4454, where she served as president, secretary-treasurer, and was 8th District President. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Bonnie enjoyed traveling, fishing, and time at the Bassett Lake cabin with her husband and family. She was a life-long avid reader.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon; a sister, Grace Pratt; and a brother, Leslie M. Sawyer. She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Gene (Jim) Tonkin of French River; her son, Robert (Cyndy) Johnson of Two Harbors; grandson, Eric (Sara) Johnson of Columbia Heights, MN; granddaughter, Elizabeth (Joshua) Rucinski of Murphysboro, IL; great grandchildren, Anna, Megan, Caleb, Jack, Evan, and James; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Memorial Service will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Grace Baptist Church, Two Harbors.

The family wishes to thank the Barross Cottage, Lake View Memorial Hospital Nurses, and Dr. Joseph and Dr. McMahon for their loving care.
