Betty Johnson, 90, of Two Harbors died Wednesday, January 12, 2017 in Woodbury, Minnesota.
She was born on February 16, 1926 to Alfred and Alfina (Fredson) Johnson in Two Harbors where she was a lifelong resident. After graduating from Two Harbors High School in 1944, Betty received her Registered Nursing Certificate from Cook County Nursing School and later obtained a Master’s Degree in Public Health from the University of Minnesota. She returned to Two Harbors and was employed as the Lake County Nurse and at Lake Superior School District for many years as the school nurse. After retiring, Betty and her sister Betsy continued to volunteer with the pre-school screening program, helping people get to doctor’s visits and delivering flowers and giving communion for people who could not make it to church.
Betty enjoyed going to the cabin, city band concerts and spending time with family and friends. She especially liked to go to fish cake and lutefisk dinners in Knife River.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Alfina (Fredson) Johnson, brother Richard Johnson and sister Betsy Elander.
Betty is survived by her niece, Mary Beth (Brian) Johnson, great-nephew Carl (Tenley) Johnson and Great-great nephews Steian and Tarquin Johnson.
Visitation will be held from 9 AM until the 10 AM memorial service on Monday, January 16, 2017 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Two Harbors.
