Arthur Raymond "Ray" Olson, 93, of Duluth, died Monday, July 22 at the Benedictine Health Center in Duluth.
He was born February 16, 1920 to Theodore and Mattie Olson in Hovland. Ray was a lifelong resident of St. Louis County. He enlisted in the Navy and served for 2 years. He worked for St. Louis County Bridge Division in Pike Lake, and for the DM&IR Railroad for 16 years, retiring in 1982. Ray enjoyed old westerns, fishing, hunting, antique cars and tractors, and loved traveling and being outdoors. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Floodwood and the American Legion Post#0262 for 23 years.
Ray is preceded in death by hi s parents, first wife, Sadie Nordin; second wife, Mercedes Typpo; and three sisters, Margaret Amundson, Mable Schultz, and Esther Howard.
He is survived by his best friend of 11 years, Ellen Neufield; nieces, Peggy Roningen of Duluth, Marion Gillian of Utah, and Jean (Steve) Kroner of Duluth; nephews, Edward (Betty) Shultz of New Mexico, Chris (Judy) Roningen of Duluth, and Robert (Mara) Roningen of Duluth.
A graveside service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Park Hill Cemetery.
