Alvera Pierson, 85, of Duluth Township, died Friday, December 22, 2017 peacefully at home with her family at her side.
She was born November 8, 1932 to Alphonse and Gertrude (Amundson) Anderson in Duluth and was a lifelong resident of the North Shore. After Alvera graduated from Clover Valley High School and St. Luke’s School of Nursing, she was employed as a LPN at St. Luke’s and later Miller Dwan Kidney Dialysis Unit. After retiring, she enjoyed winters in Texas for many years with her husband, Herb.
Alvera was an active member of French River Lutheran Church, proud of her Swedish heritage, and was the first female Duluth Township Supervisor. As a daughter of a commercial fisherman, she was also a member and historian of the Tofte Fishing Museum.
Alvera’s greatest joy was time spent with her family and friends. She enjoyed golf, berry-picking, baking, and North Shore history. Alvera touched the lives of many people.
Alvera was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Herb in 2015; and her brothers, Alvin and Arthur Anderson.
She is survived by her children, Dave (Kathy) Pierson, Jeff (Barb) Pierson; Lynne (Doug) Compton, Claire (Boyd Hanson) Pierson, and Brita (Andy) Aug; grandchildren, Andrea, Bethany, Derek, Jennifer, Julia, Laura, Daniel, Caroline, Courtney, Devyn, and Elizabeth; 10 great-grandchildren, a brother-in-law, Donald (Winifred) Pierson, many special nieces and nephews; and extended family in Sweden.
The family would like to thank the staff of St. Luke’s Hospice for the loving care they provided.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to French River Lutheran Church.
Visitation will be from 10 AM until the 11 AM service on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at French River Lutheran Church.
