Allen R. Heil, 78, of Two Harbors, died peacefully on August 5, 2022, at St. Luke’s Hospital, with his devoted granddaughter by his side.
Allen was born on August 1, 1944, to Joseph and Gertrude (Bauch) Heil in Barron, WI and grew up in Two Harbors. After graduating from Two Harbors High School in 1962, he married Carol “Cookie” Carlson in 1965. Together they made their home in Two Harbors, where he spent decades as a jack of all trades while raising their family.
In his youth, Allen enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and singing. He was a member of many choirs, most notably Spirit Wind. After high school, he attended Chicago Technical College and the Commercial Trades Institute where he received training in Architectural Drafting and Electronics Repair. There was nothing Allen couldn’t build, repair, or repurpose, and he proved that for decades as a Mining Foreman, Manufacturing Supervisor, and as a carpentry business owner.
After retirement, his favorite things to do were play solitaire and spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandson. He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, handyman expertise, and love of music and family.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Carol; brothers, Gerald (Mary Ann) Samuels, Roger (Marilyn) Heil, Clifford Heil; and father-in-law, Bertil Carlson.
He is survived by his children, Kimberly Smith (Steve Fleming), James (Janine) Heil, and Joel (Kelley) Heil; grandchildren, Jessica (Nolan) Chenevert, Aaron Heil, Allison Mayfield, Jadon Heil, Grace Heil, Coen and Natalie Heil; great-grandson, Barrett Chenevert; mother-in-law Audrey Carlson; sisters, Paula (Tom) Malvin, Joyce (Ron) Hart, and Donna Heil; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
